Life is like mogul skiing

ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー

 <Summary>

①Turning point in your life='bump'.

②'bump' in my life in December of 2018.

③How to get over the 'bump'.

ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー

When was the turning points in your life?

Turning point. It is like a bump while you are skiing mogul. Once you are running straight into an angle to the right, suddenly you have no choice but to change the direction. You cannot go back to the 'bump' which you have run through. Now, you are to maintain your posture and start again.  (Though I experienced this only in the "Wii Sports" game by Nintendo")

I am sure I had various types of turning points in my life. However, most of them are ones that I can find out only after I look back. I call those unconscious turning points.

This month, November of 2018, was an exception. I almost firstly recognized that I am now standing at a turning point.

The highlights of this month were as follows.

Firstly, I finally decided my first job.

Secondly, I broke up with a person with whom I am convinced that I am together for a very long time.

My flatmate wisely described my situation as "you've got a place to settle in, while lost a place to settle in in your life." lol.

Me, heading to Boston and the same one, arriving from New York was different regarding feeling and the future expectation. During the flight from New York to London, I was spacing out with looking out of the window (, though what I could see was 90% clouds, of course).

When I arrived at my tiny room in London, I felt so bad due to the extreme tiredness. From that day, I stayed indoors for three days. If it were me before getting into the university, I would be crushed by pressure and shock.

However, I am sure I am stronger than that, now. I am so grateful for the change of myself which was brought about by more than 800 influential people I have come across in this 3 and a half year (according to my FB data).  Before 18, I was like a Mikan (=mandarin orange in Japanese) in a sheltered house or a cardboard box. Now, I believe I am standing on the halfway through to become a weather-beaten mandarin orange grown up by corporation between Japan and U.K.

The things I learned in a sheltered house are still so precious for me.  Like a compass, those will tell me the direction I should head to at the next stage.

3 and a half year after the enrollment has been even precious. I have acquired brand new common sense, which is highly needed once in a while. The three representatives would be 1. how to sense my life: 2. how to speak up: 3. how to weather the difficulties. I will introduce you three videos that speak for what I have learned and noticed from my good and bad experiences. If you have to go soon, I beg you to watch only the third one, from 18:23~.

  1. How to sense your life GoodThink, Inc.: Shawn Achor

When we achieve a goal, we set an even higher goal.

The higher the goal would be, the further we have to wait for the "happiness."

How it is essential to sense happiness now!

  1. How to speak up Social psychologist: Adam Glinsky

'Speak Up' is rather difficult. If we become too humble to ask a question/help, we cannot obtain what we should have achieved. On the other hand, if we become too fearless to do so, the end of the story is even worse.

We need some tips to speak up and make others accept us.

  1. How to weather difficulties Facebook, Inc. COO: Sheryl Sandberg

Too sad to say, Sheryl lost her beloved husband a year ago when she delivered this speech. When we hit the difficulties, we could be stronger depending on how to recognize the situation and how to stand up again.

※I would very appreciate if someone teaches me how she meant by the slogan "Kick the ship out of Option B (around 9:30)".

I was also delighted I could be moved by the speeches that were delivered in a language which is not my mother tongue. I believe in the future the words will stand me up and make me ski mogul again.

I want to write down this blog instead of my determination to appreciate every happiness, to have balanced values, to speak up for myself and others, and to get over every 'bump' I will hit in the future.

I am sorry that today's blog was somewhat too personal. I am going to write about my experiences through studying abroad, job hunting, Japan and Europe politics, history as well as travels.

Thank you for reading this:)
